Veteran Tax Credit and Elderly Exemptions
VETERANS’ TAX CREDIT

A Winchester veteran may apply for a tax credit on his or her primary residence providing that he or she has had war service and has lived in the State of New Hampshire for at least one year preceding April 1st in the year the tax credit is claimed.  To apply, complete a PA-29 Application (also available from the Selectmen’s’ office in the Townhall).  Submit the completed form, along with a copy of your DD214 showing your service dates, to the Board of Selectmen.   For more information regarding the Veterans’ Tax Credit, see NH Revised Statute Chapter 72:28.



ELDERLY EXEMPTION

Elderly Winchester residents may apply for an elderly exemption for the property taxes on their primary residences, providing that they are at least 65 years of age and meet all of the Town’s income and asset criteria.

To apply:
1.
Print out (or pick up at the town hall) the Winchester Town Elderly Exemption Form and Guidelines.  Complete the application if you qualify.
2.
Print out (or pick up at the town hall) a PA-29 State Form and complete the elderly exemption portions of the form.
3.
Bring these completed documents to the Selectmen’s’ office at the town hall.  You will also need to bring copies of your Social Security income statement, statements showing income from pensions or other distributions, and a copy of your latest federal income tax return, if you still file one.

The Board of Selectmen will review your application and notify you of their decision by mail.
