Where can I obtain sand for personal use? |
Sand may be obtained at the landfill/transfer station. The limit is three five-gallon buckets at any given time.
Do I need a driveway permit to build a driveway on my property? |
Yes, you always need a driveway permit. Where you obtain one from depends on whether your proposed driveway enters off from a town owned road or a State highway. If your driveway borders a State highway, then you must submit a driveway permit application to the State of New Hampshire Bureau of Highway Maintenance, District Four, 19 Base Hill Road, Swanzey NH 03446. To obtain an application, please call 352-2302 or go to the State Highway Building at 19 Base Hill Road.
If your driveway borders a town road, then you must submit a driveway permit application to the highway superintendent for approval. The application may be obtained at the town hall or by printing one from the link on this website.
When will my road be plowed? |
During inclement weather that requires highway maintenance, the highway department has six plow operators working. Each operator has a route and all operators start plowing from the highway garage outwards to the outskirts of the town. Ex: If you live near the Winchester/ Swanzey town line, your road will be one of the last ones plowed.
Exceptions to this policy are the bus routes. These roads will be plowed first if school is in session.
I live in Richmond, who maintains my road? |
The Town of Winchester does not maintain roads in Richmond. Each town is a separate municipality and each town maintains their own roads.
